The Food Industry's Digital Transformation Technology is changing every aspect of how the food industry operates. Not surprisingly, food manufacturers are embracing the value of cloud computing—and global leaders are leveraging Aviatrix to achieve success. In this case study, we look at the real-world use cases of a Global 500 enterprise in the food industry. We explore the enterprise's technical and business challenges, the compa- ny's original cloud network architecture, simple improve- ments that resulted in quick wins, and a recommended future state for building out the enterprise's cloud network. While the examples here are specific to a global leader in the food industry, the technical and business challenges discussed apply to all enterprises. First, is the food industry really undergoing a digital trans- formation? According to Andrew Hillman, data journalist at GlobalData Media, the number of times food manufactur- ing companies mentioned cloud technology in their public filings increased 62% from the third quarter of 2020 to the third quarter of 2021. "Companies that excel and invest in these areas are thought to be better prepared for the future business landscape and better equipped to survive unforeseen challenges," says Hillman 1 . Rob Dongoski, Food and Agriculture Leader at EY 2 , says, "New technology gives the agricultural industry an opportunity to improve productivity. But only if it can share and use the data." While the global population is expected to grow by almost 40% to 9.6 billion by 2050, food producers are expected to have access to only 5% more land. In other words, technology will be key and will "fundamentally transform every part of the agri-busi- ness value chain," according to Dongoski. Everything from precision farming supported by GPS and IoT devices to big data and analytics will play a role in supporting demand measurement and distribution, shipment tracking, and ecommerce.
