Having already expanded to more than 500 global employees over the past few years, Aviatrix’s rapid growth is not slowing down. On the heels of announcing Dallas as the company’s new international hub, we are now celebrating the grand opening of our new office in the Research Park at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
With over 600 customers – including 63 Fortune 500 industry leaders – Aviatrix is helping enterprises simplify multi-cloud networking and network security with one architecture, one network, any cloud.
As we continue growing, we are expanding our teams of the best and brightest software engineers and solutions architects to help build what today’s enterprises need to stay competitive and innovative in the cloud era.
Champaign is an ideal office location for Aviatrix as the city fosters academics – attracting top-notch students that attend the prestigious UIUC – and tech talent looking to start or advance their careers at some of the most innovative companies. In addition to offering a wealth of career opportunities in technology, the cost of living in Champaign is far more affordable than other technology hubs.
Located on the UIUC campus, the Research Park has become a technology hub for corporate research and development operations, startups, and established companies. There are more than 120 companies that employ thousands of employees and at any given time, and more than 800 student interns gaining valuable learning and work experience.
Aviatrix joins an impressive community of other leaders in their respective industries, including Abbott Laboratories, Bayer, BP, Capital One, Caterpillar, Motorola Solutions, P&G, Riverbed, State Farm, Nvidia, and Yahoo, along with 50 startups that are commercializing technology.
The 4,000 square foot office is dedicated entirely to Aviatrix software engineering initiatives and is currently staffed by nearly a dozen fulltime software engineers coming from companies like Cisco, Yahoo, Nvidia, Wolfram, and Riverbed. With space for up to 30 employees, we are actively recruiting new team members at this location.
To nurture tomorrow’s tech talent and offer a potential career path at Aviatrix, we have also established an internship program, working with the UIUC and Purdue University.

“The University of Illinois Research Park cultivates a strong spirit of innovation with many other likeminded organizations and an amazing talent pool of software engineers who can help drive Aviatrix advancements in security, machine learning, and across other critical areas of the platform. We’re thrilled to join such a thriving community and look forward to expanding the team here in Champaign.”—Mark Holderbaugh, Vice President of Engineering
“Champaign-Urbana is a great community to live and innovate. The University attracts people from all over the world who push the state of the art in many ways—from developing the transistor and the first web browser to whipped cream in a can. With the constant influx of innovative people, you may meet a world class opera singer or a world expert in bioengineering while chatting with a parent at your kid’s soccer game. I have had the privilege to work with many great groups in Champaign-Urbana over the years. The cloud is changing all the ground rules we have assumed for the past couple of decades. With Aviatrix, we are creating technology that takes advantage of the new ground rules and setting the stage for the future.”— Susan Hinrichs, Chief Scientist
“Joining Aviatrix has given me an incredible opportunity to be a part of something really game changing—being a part of a team that’s building one of the most fundamental platforms for the enterprise multi-cloud computing era. It’s also given me a chance to learn so much more about emerging cloud technologies, and most importantly, to be able to work closely with—and learn from—some of the most impactful leaders in the cloud networking field. Aviatrix possesses many of the key qualities as to why I made my home in Champaign-Urbana. It’s a place where one can be extremely close to fundamental research and emerging technology, closely involved in its practical application, and being part of a closely-knit group of people who are truly committed and want to make a difference.”— Rick Bernotas, Software Engineer
“Aviatrix offers a dynamic yet resolute environment for research-oriented software development. As a startup, the company has a great head on its shoulders and it’s exciting to be a part of a fast-growing community of incredibly intelligent and kind people. The motivation to try different things is palpable across the teams and the UIUC Research Park offers an opportunity to pursue an immensely satisfying technical career with the benefits of being in an affordable and culturally vibrant college town. The Aviatrix team truly feels like family. It’s equally as easy to talk to my colleagues about new cloud technologies as it is to talk about the summer hikes we enjoy. The UIUC Research Park is a microcosm of a perfect work culture and ethics in the tech industry, bringing the aspiration of the Silicon Valley to the determination of the Midwest.”—Kuhu Shukla, Principal Engineer
