Q&A with Johnny Kao, Sr. Engineering Manager

Q. What attracted you to Aviatrix?

A. Before joining Aviatrix, I had experience in multicloud asset management (instances, domain names, CDN, etc.) and workflow automation. I was immediately drawn to Aviatrix because of the opportunity to expand my knowledge in network management. After researching the company further, I was very impressed by the company’s innovative and elegant multicloud network architecture. I feel that this is a fantastic opportunity, and I am honored to be a part of the company’s journey.

Q. What can you say about your Aviatrix adventure to date?

A. It is an exciting and energetic place to work, but like any rapidly growing startup, it can sometimes be a chaotic adventure where one needs to stop and recalibrate. Our leaders here at Aviatrix are astute observers of business trends and know how to seize opportunities and pivot at the right time. The team is always at the ready to take on any challenge that comes our way.

Q. What can you share about the caliber of people you work with in engineering—professional, experienced, innovative, collaborative, etc.

A. I am so proud to be a part of this incredible team. Everyone is enthusiastic and contributes their unique skills and perspectives. We all understand the company’s goals and work together to achieve them. Despite our diverse backgrounds and levels of experience, we have a strong sense of cohesion and camaraderie that is truly special.

Q. What do you like most about the company so far?

A. We have an ambitious vision for the future, but we approach it with a step-by-step approach, continuously evolving and growing. We understand the importance of not overcomplicating things and prioritize practicality and efficiency. This mindset guides our decision making and helps us deliver our products efficiently, making our team a highly productive one.

Q. Is there anything else you’d like to mention that a prospective employee (or someone looking to join your team) may find interesting?

Kao has more than 15 years of experience in software development and engineering. Prior to Aviatrix, he worked as a software developer manager at Pentium Network, a Taiwan-based software and solutions provider that helps make enterprises’ hybrid cloud IT operations smarter, simpler, and secure. Throughout his career, he has held numerous senior positions, including director of software engineering and development roles at several well-known manufacturing companies such as Pegatron and Foxconn; and Oursky, an IT Services and IT Consulting company.
