Aviatrix wants to elevate the work of cloud networking heroes who labor to keep networks secure, effective, and performant. We’re proud to highlight people who have taught themselves the necessary skills, designed and managed successful networks, and have the expertise to share.
Our next hero spotlight is on Shenghua Ni, Senior Professional Application Designer. See our previous hero spotlights here.
Background: Computing, Research, and Healthcare
Shenghua began his career in IT infrastructure in China. He built a foundation in computing, mathematics, and statistics, earning a B.S. in Management Information Systems, an M.S. in Mathematics & Statistics, and a PhD in Computational Analysis and Modeling. He earned his first networking certification, Cisco Certified Network Associate, in 2000 and gained experience in Azure with the Microsoft Certified Azure Administrator Associate.
Shenghua moved to the US and stepped into the healthcare field, contributing to more than 20 research articles for The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Neurology and Urodynamics, Journal of General Internal Medicine, and other medical journals.
Shenghua now combines his computing skills with his interest in healthcare by working with Microsoft Azure and SAS Viya in a healthcare supporting company. He named some of the top networking challenges for healthcare companies: security, regulatory compliance, cost management, and data management.
In 2019, Shenghua received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated leadership, excellence, and longevity within their respective industries and professions.
Mathematical Modeling and Statistics in Cloud Networking
Shenghua shared some insights about how his mathematical, statistical, and Computational Analysis and Modeling knowledge informs his current role:
- Advanced mathematical models can help analyze network traffic patterns and optimize network performance, driving efficiency and scalability in cloud network architectures.
- Statistical analysis helps teams predict network demand and potential issues before they occur. These predictions help operations and DevOps in proactive management and planning, ensuring high availability and reliability.
The Network is the Cloud
For Shenghua, “The Network is the Cloud” encapsulates the idea that modern networking is intrinsically linked with cloud services. It means that instead of relying on traditional physical infrastructure, networks now leverage the flexibility, scalability, and reach of cloud technologies. This paradigm shift allows for more seamless connectivity, resource allocation, and service delivery.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Shenghua enjoys traveling. He’s a Google Local Guide, contributing photos, reviews, and advice to help visitors to his community plan their stays. He’s also a lifelong learner, with over 900 Credly badges earned so far.
