The HAPEV IT team struggled to transition to multicloud, facing challenges in managing the network stack with limited staff.

Challenge:
Faced with a complex multicloud environment driven by dynamic financial markets, the HAPEV IT team lacked the resources to manage network operations, secure connections, and troubleshoot effectively, necessitating an automated, scalable solution without adding headcount.

Solution:
Aviatrix provided HAPEV with a scalable multicloud solution across AWS and other providers, using services like Amazon EC2, S3, and Gateway Load Balancer. It enabled secure network segmentation, encryption, and visibility while simplifying IP challenges, ensuring application performance and laying a robust foundation for multicloud infrastructure.

Impact:
Aviatrix enhanced visibility, secured the network, boosted throughput, and streamlined operations without increasing staff or compromising efficiency.

“As a small team, Aviatrix enables us to operate a multicloud environment with a compliant infrastructure and with a great amount of visibility. So we don't have to hire a lot of people to operate this platform and deploy new workloads.”
Alexander Milnikel
Principal Architect & Infrastructure Team Technical Lead
HAPEV sought a solution that simplified network operations in public clouds. “We want to enable the business to have that flexibility to develop new business capabilities,” said Alexander Milnikel, Principal Architect and Technical Lead for the infrastructure team at HAPEV.
Without the ability to have dedicated staff for AWS, other public clouds, and on-premises, easily switching between clouds and moving data between them was difficult. “IT wanted the option to move legacy and new stuff around where it makes sense,” he said.
Improving Visibility and Control with Aviatrix on AWS
Milnikel found out about Aviatrix after asking industry colleagues about the solution. HAPEV IT Solution Architect Keven Hamann was drawn to the insights that Aviatrix could provide about their traffic going through the HAPEV network over the cloud and on-premises. He explained that Aviatrix provides the best security configuration he has seen, helping them inspect traffic east, west, north and south with high-performance encryption (HPE).
In the initial project phases, the HAPEV team did not deploy its mesh network with HPE, but they soon realized that enabling HPE could increase throughput. The team rebuilt their mesh with the help of SVA, Aviatrix, and a Terraform provider. They also implemented Aviatrix ThreatIQ, enabling them to get more detailed visibility into traffic flow that they could not otherwise see in firewalls connected via FireNet. With Aviatrix CoPilot, the HAPEV team got more visibility from the threat itself.
Achieving Agility and Seamless Compliance
With Aviatrix on AWS, this small HAPEV IT team is now able to easily identify and troubleshoot issues and sync efforts. For example, a DevOps team member may deploy in the cloud and notice that a resource isn’t connecting to AWS or isn’t getting egress.
HAPEV has strict compliance requirements to meet. With centralized egress, Aviatrix makes compliance easier by ensuring that the company secures their entire network and prevents breaches. Combined with FireNet, the HAPEV team inspects and secures all traffic that goes through the network and egress.
