From an IT perspective Hyatt has existing physical data centers, a significant presence in Azure and is developing a multi-cloud architecture as a key part of their IT digital transformation strategy.

Customer Challenges and Requirements

Hyatt needed a new IT architecture that would overcome existing international application networking and security challenges, support significant expansion in China, South Korea, Japan and Middle East and at the same time improve internal productivity and Hyatt’s most important value – customer experience.

Key requirements

  • Leverage public cloud (Azure) – no new regional data center.
  • Design a global network architecture that scales for new properties, applications and cloud regions.
  • Deploy and manage ERP applications in country to meet local data sovereignty requirements.
  • Eliminate > 500ms latency to US-based services, which delayed authentication response time, caused employee frustration, severely impacting both productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Optimize costs by leveraging existing on-premise hardware.
  • Key tenants for global operations – simplicity, automation, visibility and control.

Solution

Hyatt combined Aviatrix and Azure to deploy and manage a cloud-native network architecture for a significant expansion in China, South Korea, Japan and Middle East. The Hyatt team developed an architecture that

  • Aviatrix cloud-native networking for multi-cloud architecture, beginning with Azure
  • Aviatrix Intelligent Orchestration and Control to deliver global visibility and monitoring
  • Aviatrix secure site-to-cloud solution for in region encrypted for connectivity to Azure
  • Scalable and secure cloud networking using Aviatrix cloud native software

Ability to provide encrypted connectivity between more than 60 hotels to an Azure cloud region

Results

From a business perspective, Aviatrix cloud-native networking across their global Azure cloud infrastructure, Hyatt was able to significantly improve both internal user productivity and critical guest experience. Architecturally and operationally, the Hyatt team materially reduced costs of deployment and day-two operations using Aviatrix’s touch-less provisioning and automation to simplify on-boarding new properties and never before possible cloud-networking visibility and operational control.
