New Research Finds 92% of Organizations Encountering Pain Points Related to Reliance on Cloud Native Networking Solutions

Aviatrix and Enterprise Management Associates’ (EMA™) “Multi-Cloud Networking: Connecting and Securing the Future” Report Offers IT Professionals a Roadmap to Multicloud Networking Success

Santa Clara, Calif. – January 25, 2023 – Aviatrix, the pioneer of Intelligent Cloud Networking™, in partnership with leading IT and data management research and consulting firm, Enterprise Management Associates (EMA™), today announced the release of a new research report, titled “Multi-Cloud Networking: Connecting and Securing the Future.” Based on a survey of 351 IT stakeholders who work in multicloud enterprises, the report explores the current state of cloud networking to offer insights into the pain points, technology requirements, and operational strategies needed to achieve successful cloud network architectures today and in the future.

The report’s findings reveal widespread adoption of multicloud networking, with only 4% of respondents claiming to have one vendor serving all of their cloud needs, while the majority use three or four providers. Findings show that most of these organizations rely too heavily on the native networking solutions their individual cloud providers offer, resulting in pain points identified by respondents including networking limitations, cost, cloud provider lock-in, and limited security features. Nearly 92% of organizations expressed difficulty with at least one of these significant pain points, and 76% said they are unhappy with the native networking functions that cloud providers offer.

“When enterprises build networks across multiple clouds, the native networking technologies offered by their various cloud providers become roadblocks to success,” said Shamus McGillicuddy, Vice President of Research, covering network management at EMA. “Networking professionals tell us that cloud provider solutions are bandwidth-constrained, less cost-effective, and lack advanced features. They also lack a breadth of network security capabilities. Third-party, end-to-end solutions to multicloud networking become essential in these enterprises.”

Multicloud networking teams report difficulty in building a consistent network across, within, and between their multicloud estate, with 97% of organizations facing significant challenges – notably monitoring, capacity management, and visibility – when implementing and managing connections. Therefore, it’s no surprise that 68% of these organizations have acquired new tools to address multicloud network monitoring.

According to EMA, end-to-end multicloud networking solutions are an emerging class of technologies that can provide multiple networking capabilities across the cloud, including integrated network security solutions, VPN for ingress and egress controls, and a robust routing stack for optimal traffic engineering between their networks and the cloud across the multicloud architecture. Nearly all (93%) of the organizations in EMA’s survey said they are interested in deploying an end-to-end multicloud networking solution.

“Multicloud is inevitable, there are limitations inherent in basic networking and network security services from the cloud service providers – coupled with an industry-wide shortage of cloud networking skills – that are stalling adoption of successful multicloud strategies,” said Rod Stuhlmuller, Vice President of Solutions Marketing at Aviatrix. “Aviatrix is solving this challenge with our solution that’s enterprise-grade and designed for managing infrastructure within and across any cloud. We’re helping global organizations build enterprise cloud network backbones to efficiently link data centers, edge, and business-critical applications to, within, and between clouds. We’re also helping to upskill the industry through the ACE multicloud certification program, which has skyrocketed in popularity over the past couple of years.”

Looking ahead, cloud networking training will be an essential strategy to multicloud networking success. Of the organizations surveyed, 31% report difficulty in hiring cloud networking experts. The lack of talent and cloud skills, paired with the rapid adoption of new technologies and cloud providers, has resulted in 90% of organizations allocating resources to train existing employees on cloud networking.

EMA will hold a webinar to review and discuss its research findings on Tuesday, January 31 at 11:00am PT/2:00pm ET. To register, visit:
