Customer Press Release: Wharton School

Wharton Computing at the University of Pennsylvania Chooses Aviatrix to Simplify Cloud Networking and Secure Data-in-Motion

Aviatrix Cloud Network Platform with High-Performance Encryption Helps Prestigious Business School Support Worldwide Campuses, Faculty and Staff

Santa Clara, Calif.— April 29, 2020 — Aviatrix, the cloud network platform, today announced that Wharton Computing, a division of the University of Pennsylvania’s business school, is using Aviatrix to enable its multi-cloud networking architecture – including Aviatrix Transit Gateway and High-Performance Encryption to secure data in motion – to help deliver comprehensive business education and business continuity that extends from the main campus on-premises data center to public cloud and International satellite locations, including Beijing and San Francisco.

The Wharton School, established in 1881, is the world’s oldest collegiate school of business. Wharton is changing the way business is done. The institution’s faculty, students, and alumni generate big ideas, back them up with incisive analysis, and turn them into solutions that work. Wharton educates, informs, and inspires the leaders who are meeting the world’s complex challenges, advancing business practices, and driving economic growth at a global scale.

”From an IT perspective, we needed to be able to support new users, implement new cloud network services, and secure our data using more automation and less human involvement, said Antonio Vivas, IT Director at Wharton. With the Aviatrix cloud networking platform we have both the right architecture and operational models to achieve this. Our IT team has been able to increase network visibility and control, across AWS and public cloud, and troubleshoot issues much faster.”

Several years ago, Wharton started their cloud transition from running all their IT services on-premises to a cloud deployment model that includes Amazon Web Services (AWS) for their computing infrastructure. The IT teams biggest challenge with their cloud deployment was that every AWS VPC change required manual network changes that took at least one week or more to implement. The IT team were struggling to find simpler networking options to help them move to cloud in an automated, faster manner that could be easily operationalized.

The Aviatrix cloud network platform drives an architecture and enterprise transit network that secures all traffic between on-premises, AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), and satellite educational locations. Intellectual property and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) are protected with integrated high-performance encryption that provides 60 times more IPSec throughput over standard encryption – the Wharton team no longer needs to sacrifice security for performance.

“Delivering educational content to individuals worldwide is a powerful example of how forward-thinking institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania Business School are using their cloud transformation as a strategic opportunity to innovate and lead,” said Aviatrix Chief Executive Officer, Steve Mullaney. “The most critical part to succeeding in the transformation to cloud is getting the network and security infrastructure right. It starts with a multi-cloud network architecture that enables a single operational model and a repeatable network design across one or multiple clouds.”
